Discussion Board Purpose

The purpose of the Bible Versions Discussion Board is to provide a friendly, informative, thought-provoking place where people can discuss issues related to Bible versions, translation, history and related issues. These rules are in place to help maintain that purpose. This board is primarily for Christians, but anyone can participate as long as the rules below are followed.

The Apostles', Nicene, Athanasian and Chalcedon Creeds are affirmed by the owner and moderators of the Bible Version Discussion Board. Agreement with these Creeds are not a requirement for participation on the Bible Version Discussion Board, and questions and discussions on the statements in the Creeds are welcome. However, be aware that if you are interested in opposing and debating these statements as they are commonly understood and accepted, the Bible Version Discussion Board is probably not the place for you, and your participation may be restricted at the discretion of the moderators.

General Rules

Often debate forums shed more heat than light, especially when people are passionate about their beliefs. However, "the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, in meekness instructing those that oppose themselves". The basic rules of this discussion board are summed up in 2 Timothy 2:24-25 and Galatians 5:22-23. Debate is allowed (and encouraged!) on this board, but not at the expense of those scripture passages. How you post is as important as what you post. As such:

  1. No ad hominem: no name calling, insults, personal attacks, etc. This includes antagonistic images.
  2. No trolling, flaming or spamming. No hateful, offensive or illegal material.
  3. No openly anti-Christian rants. Questions/concerns about Christianity from genuine seekers are welcome, but must be respectful.
  4. Please post in the appropriate forum. Threads started in the wrong forum may be moved to a more appropriate forum. The current forums are:
    • Bible Versions and History: general Bible version, translation, history issues
    • Textual Criticism and Manuscripts: detailed discussion about Greek/Hebrew/Aramaic, textual criticism, manuscripts, variant readings, etc. For the professional scholars and translators, as well as the armchair variety who want to learn more.
    • Scripture and Technology: technology's role in research, translation, and distribution of scripture. Software development, the internet, multimedia, broadcasting, etc.
    • KJV-Only: discussion and debate related to KJV-onlyism
    • References and Tools: questions and comments about books, links, software. Information only, no debate.
    • Westcott and Hort: discussion, information and debate about Westcott and Hort. This is also the discussion forum for the Westcott and Hort Resource Centre website.
    • General Theology: discussion of other Christian issues, unrelated to Bible versions
    • Anything Goes: everything else
  5. Respect the moderators and their actions. We make mistakes, but we're just trying to keep the forums friendly and on topic.

Repeated failure to post in accordance with the above rules may result in the moderators editing posts, moving/deleting posts, warnings, and (in extreme cases) banning.
